You’ll be PlanBlue’s go to person for electronics development. You will be part of the FieldTools team, the team that works on everything that goes underwater. This team works actively together with the DataScience team as our unique product offering is a synergy between soft- and hardware. Hence, a big part of being successful in your role is about being able to collaborate well.

Our technology

We are revolutionizing seafloor mapping by integrating underwater hyperspectral imaging with AI-driven automated data processing. This powerful combination allows us to map the seafloor with unprecedented speed, efficiency, and detail. By ground-truthing aerial and satellite imagery, we facilitate the global unlocking of blue nature-based solutions, thereby uncovering the seafloor’s economic and ecological value.

Our team

Over the past couple of years, our diverse team has steadily grown to 30+ people, including engineers, software developers, product and visual designers, marine scientists, and data scientists. We believe it’s key to further expand our business team, which you will be a part of, to scale PlanBlue whilst keeping a close connection to our customers and partners.

Your responsibilities

You’ll be part of the technical exchange and translate requirements into a hardware electronics roadmap. You will own this roadmap from creation to execution. 

What you'll be doing

  • PCB Design, Prototype and test Electronics sub-systems for our hardware products and their support hardware. 

  • Take care of delivery of production files and manage (production) suppliers and manufacturers. 

  • Manage electronics integration, logistics and (sub)assembly of all parts. 

  • Provide input to decide the best design direction for our hardware products. 

  • Take your work through the full lifecycle: design, prototype, test, production, maintenance and upgrade of existing systems. 

  • Writing necessary embedded software. 

What we hope you bring

  • Relevant educational background, preferably Masters in Electronics, Embedded Systems.  

  • Demonstrated professional experience (5+ years) in designing customized hardware conforming to highest safety standards and EMC compliance to ensure interoperability with external systems. 

  • Experience in organizing and managing electronics projects (Components supply chain, inventory, designs and orders).

  • High initiative, independence, loyalty, and resilience with exceptional planning and organizational skills for autonomous working conditions, having the ability to lead and adapt to rapid changes.

  • An affinity for the ocean, identifying with PlanBlue's mission.

    Bonus if the person has:

    • Experience working in a startup environment before. 

    • Knowledge and experience in underwater electronics. 

    • Know your way around an electronics workshop. 

    • Hands-on experience with hardware shop tools.
