Platform Engineer
PlanBlue is on a mission to harness the critical role of the seafloor in addressing global challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and food insecurity. Its cutting-edge technology integrates advanced imaging with AI-driven data processing, delivering automated seafloor intelligence that uncovers the seafloor’s true ecological and economic value at scale and at speed. What you'll be doing
We’re looking for a hands-on Platform Engineer to help design, build, and maintain our cloud infrastructure and developer tooling. This is a mid-level position ideal for someone with a minimum of 4–6 years of professional experience who wants to grow into larger architectural responsibilities while making a direct impact on our engineering team.
Technical / Cloud Architecture
Planning, implementing and maintaining Cloud Infrastructure.
Identifying, evaluation and implementing key technologies for our needs:
-AWS Services,
-Cloud compatible geo-spatial data structures,
-Data processing pipelines,
-Cloud deployment automation,
-On premise deployment automation,
-Edge device deployment automation.
Increase readability and understandability of data processing pipelines and web services through refactoring or rewriting of their code base.
Tooling & Automation
Build Python tooling, conventions and libraries.
Streamlining development of new services.
Provide a continuous delivery system that deploys code changes fast, reliable and without manual intervention.
Minimize manual pipeline oversight (e.g. I/O validation).
Ensure that infrastructure monitoring and alerting is proactive and actionable.
Team Support & collaboration
Adhering to best practices (continuous development, automated deployment, automated testing, clean code & software design) across all software development.
Support and guide the team by sharing knowledge, providing tools, and assisting colleagues in troubleshooting, triaging, and resolving issues efficiently.
What you will bring
2-4 years of professional experience in cloud/DevOps roles
Strong knowledge of core AWS services (permissions, serverless, networking, microservices). [
Terraform or similar IaC expertise.[
Proficient in modern Python stack (fully typed, asyncio, data classes, uv, pydantic, fastapi...).
Experience with containerization (e.g. Docker)
Familiarity with NoSQL databases and ODMs
Proactive mindset with the ability to suggest and implement improvements.
Fluency in English is mandatory
